FC Copa Academy is proud to congratulate Semir Markisic, a 2024 alumni, on signing his first professional contract with TFA Rush Dubai. Semir’s remarkable journey, from youth soccer to the professional stage, is a great example for all of our athlete to follow and take motivation from as he was in the same position they find themselves in.
After being scouted earlier this year, Semir embarked on a month-long trial with TFA Rush Dubai in February. Despite the challenge of adjusting to new surroundings, Semir’s commitment shone through, leading to him securing a professional contract just one week before the trial ended. Reflecting on his experience, Semir described it as an eye-opening look into the world of professional soccer, a crucial step in his development as an athlete.
"Seeing how the professional world works was a really nice experience,” Semir shared. “The adjustment to the time difference and the lifestyle took some time, but the support from the club has made the transition easier."
Upon returning to the U.S., Semir continued training with FC Copa Academy, where the club’s support helped him both physically and mentally prepare for this next chapter. Coach Kantemir played a key role in this process, drawing from his professional background to guide Semir through the expectations and challenges of the professional world.
Semir credits his development at Copa, particularly the transition from playing in the 2006 age group to competing in the USL Academy, as pivotal to his growth. “That jump was huge for me,” Semir explained. “Playing against men instead of kids your own age humbles you and pushes you to your max. You may be the best in your age group, but in this environment, there’s no room for relaxation.”
Currently, Semir is recovering from surgery, taking the process day by day with the full support of TFA Rush Dubai. As he looks forward to the upcoming season, Semir is excited about the opportunities ahead and the growth that lies on the horizon.
