FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
NJ COPA FC WOMEN LOOK TO GET A STRONG START TO THE SEASON
METUCHEN, NJ - The Women of New Jersey Copa FC have been training vigorously and have been patiently waiting for their chance to get out on the pitch. This Friday May 18th, they will get their chance when they travel to FSA Park in Farmington CT to take on the Connecticut Fusion at 7pm.
NJ COPA FC will be looking to seize their opportunity and get three points as they gear up to play the Connecticut Fusion. This opening match will be a big test for the Women, but with the return of players such as Jackie Bruno, Jeanine Nunez, and Camille Bowen alongside the young and eager alumni from the FC COPA Academy Celeste the Women look to be in great form and ready to go on Friday.
When asked about the upcoming match on Friday Head Coach Roberto Aguas stated, “We have been working diligently to be prepared for our first match of the season. Our team has come together well with a combination of New Jersey Copa FC veterans, some seasoned collegiate additions as wella s some very talented products from our Academy. Although new to the league, we expect this first year team to be competitive from the start and be a good barometer of where we are . Last week’s results versus New England showed exactly that. Our goal is to be prepared mentally and physically because no game in this league is easy.”
Despite being new to the league, Connecticut Fusion has deep soccer roots, specifically with two individuals who are viewed as soccer royalty. JP Dellacamera and Shep Messing are the founding directors of the Connecticut Fusion. Both of these men have vast amounts of soccer knowledge and with that created Connecticut Fusion. With these two at the helm of Connecticut Fusion their stay in the UWS looks bright and we are looking forward to playing them and becoming apart of their history.
Associate Head Coach Andrew Giallombardo stated, “We are eager to play our first match after our home opener was postponed due to a thunderstorm that passed through New Jersey. The energy amongst the group has been sky high and the players are itching to go. We understand how important every single match is in the UWS and are hoping to get started on the right foot. We know the Fusion will not make it easy for us but we are excited to get underway.”
The fans, players, and coaches are all excited for Friday’s game and we wish the best of luck to the NJ COPA FC Women as they begin this new UWS League campaign.
