NJ COPA FC FACE OFF AGAINST FC MONMOUTH IN A MUST-WIN PLAYOFF CLINCHING GAME AT HOME

METUCHEN, NJ - On Saturday July 7th NJ COPA FC will face off in their final game of season at home against FC Monmouth. NJ COPA FC previously played FC Monmouth in a back and forth game that ended in a 1-1 draw. Every game in the NPSL is extremely important to the team, however, this game in particular is of enormous proportions because whoever wins on Saturday will clinch the last playoff spot in the Keystone Conference playoffs.

As the standings of the Keystone Conference currently show NJ COPA FC sits in fourth place and FC Monmouth sits in fifth. Both of the teams have 16 points on the season so far. NJ COPA FC has the edge in this matchup because of the goal differential they have over FC Monmouth. That being said, both teams will surely not be looking to advance through technicalities. These two sides are two of the most physical and hard nose teams in the Keystone Conference. This match will be a battle on both ends. The NJ COPA FC defense anchored by Dennis Correia and Jonathan Firmino will have a tough test ahead of them. FC Monmouth is a technical team that can move the ball very dangerously around the pitch. The defense will have to be on their toes in order to keep the clean sheet.

The NJ COPA FC attack this season has been on fire and will need to come with their shooting boots to ensure a commanding win over FC Monmouth’s solid defense. Another impressive aspect of the NJ COPA FC attack is their ability to move the ball in a way that gets the opposition completely out of position. This barcelonesque style of play has served NJ COPA FC well and will be crucial for them to do in order to be successful on Saturday.

When asked about this playoff clinching game, Head Coach Roberto Aguas stated, “ We already know FC Monmouth is a talented side and we need to come into Saturday with nothing but our best if we want to be successful. On both sides of the ball, FC Monmouth is extremely hard working and detail oriented which has helped them have a solid defense and a formidable attack. Saturday is a very important game because whoever wins will clinch the last playoff spot however this can cloud the player minds sometimes and affect their play. Before the NCAA College Cup in 2013 in which Notre Dame won, Sir Alex Ferguson had a message for the players before the game, he told them to play the game not the occasion. These words speak volumes to what we need to do on Saturday which is simply come out, play our best, and hopefully walk away with a win.”
