Jonathan Firmino and Sabrina Flores Join Latest FC Copa Virtual Series

FC Copa was thrilled to continue its regular Copa Virtually Presents for our players, providing exclusive access events to individuals that have made significant advancements in the game. This week’s session included Sky Blue FC professional player Sabrina Flores and Jonathan Firmino, an FC Copa Alum and current professional player in Portugal

Our FC Copa Academy Boy’s were joined by our very own New Jersey Copa FC Alum Jonathan Firmino. Jonathan is a 2017 League Conference Title winner and Conference Finalist with New Jersey Copa FC, who currently plays professionally in Portugal’s 3rd division for SC Mineiro Aljustrelense. Jonathan highlighted how important the NJ Copa FC setup was towards his professional development and how Coach Billy and Roberto fostered an environment where that team was a family. Firmino fielded questions from the 90+ FC Copa Academy player participants that centered around personal development, strength training, and how best to set themselves up to succeed under #TheCopaWay. “Tonight was a fantastic evening for our players to experience more positive role models from former Copa players who continue to make an impact in the game and in life. We are extremely grateful for Jonathan Firmino for taking time out of his schedule to share his experiences and life lessons with our FC Copa players. We certainly wish him the best as he continues his dream of playing professionally in Portugal.” -Boys Technical Director Billy Englishby

Sabrina Flores, current Sky Blue FC defender and former US U20 national team member, offered incredible insight into her professional soccer journey. Sabrina shared details of the incredible honor of playing against her sister Monica at the 2015 U20 Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship and at the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup. Flores welcomed questions from the over 95+ FC Copa Academy girls that focused on training at home during these challenging times. Flores highlighted how important it is for every player to find their training “why”, discover why they train and ultimately how determining what their goals are is key to deciding how they should train. Sabrina also highlighted how important accountability, one of FC Copa’s key values, is to her personal development. Accountability and the commitment she made towards ensuring she would play at the highest possible level for as long as possible were crucial foundational steps in getting to the current point in her career.

“In our fifth meeting of the Copa Virtually Presents Series, we featured Sabrina Flores of Sky Blue FC. Sabrina, a member of the US National team pool, was an excellent guest speaker who gave some insight into her personal training regiment during the current COVID pandemic. Our FC Copa girls were fully engaged with nearly 100 players attending the hour-long session. It was a pleasure having Sabrina featured as our guest speaker, and she will be invited again to speak at one of our future girl’s events. Our hope is that our girls will take what they learned from Sabrina in the meeting and apply it to their daily routines as they seek collegiate and professional opportunities in the future.” -Girls Technical Director David Barbour
