The FC Copa Academy 2013 Girls team capped off an impressive State Cup campaign, finishing as finalists in a close 4-3 match against Madison SC. The entire Academy is proud of the team's accomplishments, as their journey to the final reflected not only their hard work and improvement but also their ability to compete at a high level.
Throughout the tournament, the 2013 Girls showcased both their attacking strength and defensive discipline. Scoring 15 goals scored in the three games leading up to the final, they demonstrated their ability to control matches, creating chances from all over the field while staying organized at the back.
In the final, the girls showed the same determination and teamwork that had brought them this far. They played with focus and intensity, keeping the game competitive from start to finish. Although Madison SC edged out the win, the 2013 Girls can be proud of the way they played and the effort they put in.
Coach Michael Lescano reflected on the team’s growth:" This group holds a special place in my heart. To say I'm proud would be an understatement. The girls and I have come a long way in their development so to now be playing with a style that suits our strengths and to be able to grow in a direction that will prepare us for the ECNL Regional League, I am thrilled to be by their side. This State Cup journey has shown the girls how well they can play when we all follow our roles on the field and it also showed us what happens when you we do not convert. Hard pill to swallow for the girls but this loss in the final will allow the girls to reappear in many more finals as a group ."
As the team looks ahead to the next challenge in the ECNL Regional League, they can take confidence from their performance in the State Cup. Their progress throughout the season has laid a strong foundation for continued development, and this experience will serve them well as they prepare for more competition in the future.
The entire FC Copa Academy community is proud of the 2013 Girls for what they’ve achieved this season. We are excited to see how this talented group will continue to grow and succeed in the seasons ahead. Congratulations girls!
