Coach Roberto Aguas is the President, Founder, and Executive Director of Coaching of FC Copa Academy. Coach Roberto has coached FIVE FC Copa Academt teams to the #1 Ranking in the Country (via GotSoccer). He has developed and mentored a large number of players who are now playing collegiate or professionally around the world. Most recently Coach Roberto lead the FC Copa 00s to the NPL National Championship in 2017.
Coach Roberto is responsible for the creation and consistent implementation of the club’s curriculum and is active in the oversight of training and development of all coaches and players with the focus on preparing the young men and women to play soccer at the collegiate level. Coach Roberto, along with his staff, leads the process of college recruitment and placement for our players.
Coach Roberto has lead five teams to the #1 ranking in New Jersey and in the country. In 2013 he lead the FC Copa Academy Milan U14G to the NJ State Championship and the FC Copa Academy Real U18G to the NJ State Finals. That same year, 2013, he lead the FC Copa Academy Juniors U16B to the US Club National Finals. In 2012 Coach Roberto lead the historic FC Copa Academy Real U17G to the first National Title for FC Copa Academy when they won the US Club National Championship in Chicago. In 2011, he lead the FC Copa Academy Forza U18B to dual Championships at the NJYS State Cup and US Club State Cup. That same team was also the 2008 finalist at both the US Club Regionals and US Club Nationals. Coach Roberto has also taken the U16 Girls Celeste at the time to an 2015 NPL National Finals.
Coach Roberto has personally coached over 60 players and had oversight of 200 plus players at FC Copa Academy who have gone on to play collegiate soccer for schools such as Princeton, Rutgers, Louisville, West Point, Marist, Syracuse, McGill (Canada), Navy, and Lehigh to name a few. He has also coached and mentored FC Copa players who have gone on to the professional ranks or have been called up to youth national teams in the US, England, Portugal, Russia, Ecuador, Honduras, Philippines, Dominican Republic, St. Kitts and Nevis. Coach Roberto has coached at many different youth levels in three continents for over 20 years. Coach Roberto exerts a high emphasis on maintaining a relationship with all FC Copa Academy players after they graduate. He works closely with alumni to continue their personal development as well as exposure to other aspects of their soccer career and business development.
Coach Roberto has lead teams at FC Copa Academy to wins at some of the most prestigious tournaments, showcases and leagues in the country, a list which represents the top competition nationally; US Club Regionals & Nationals, USYS Regionals, NJYS State Championship, US Club State Championship, Region 1 League, EDP / NPL League, Dallas Cup Invitational, Disney Soccer Showcase, Jefferson Cup Invitational, Potomac Invitational and the Las Vegas Player Showcase.

Coach Roberto is a founding board member of EDP (Eastern Development Program) and is an active lecturer in coaching philosophy in North and South America as well as Europe, with an emphasis on teaching systems and styles of play.
Coach Roberto is also a very successful business entrepreneur, having been an executive member of the management team of two companies he lead to an initial public offering (IPO) in 1996, Seer Technologies (an IBM Company) and in 2000, Serviceware both in the technology sector. He currently leads a portfolio of companies via his investment firms, Copa Holdings (US) and Andes Ventures (Latin America), and is an investor, advisor, mentor and board member of a number of privately owned startups he has helped found and fund.
Coach Roberto holds a USSF National License and is a member of the NSCAA.

Coach Mike Taylor is a founding officer of FC Copa Academy, a Director in the club and founder of the FC Copa Goalkeeper Academy. He brings 35 years of soccer experience as both a player and a coach to the club. Coach Mike played with numerous premiere club teams in St. Louis, Missouri as a youth player. He was a four-year player for McCluer North High School (St. Louis, MO), and was a member of two conference championship teams and a state championship finalist team.
Coach Mike was a four-year player for Truman State University - NCAA Div. II. As the starting goalkeeper, he was a member of two MIAA conference championship teams and remains the holder of the university record for individual saves in a single game.
Coach Mike coached and mentored many great goalkeepers in the FC Copa Goalkeeper Academy since its inception and he holds a USSF License.
Vice President | Director of Academic Guidance | Senior Staff Coach
Coach Lori Berman joined FC Copa Academy in 2007 and serves as the FC Copa Academy Director of Academic Guidance, Vice President of Operations, and Senior Coaching Staff member. Coach Lori plays a vital role in player development at FC Copa Academy. She has been influential in preparing and assisting over 200 FC Copa Academy alumni for the transition to playing college soccer across all levels. Prior to joining FC Copa Academy in 2007, she served as a guidance counselor and freshman seminar instructor for 20 years at St. Peter’s Preparatory High School in Jersey City, NJ.
Since joining the club, Coach Lori has traveled all over the country with FC Copa Academy teams to some of the most prestigious and selective tournaments and showcases across the country, competing against the top domestic and international talent including: the Disney Soccer Showcase, CASL Showcase, the Las Vegas Player Showcase, the Dallas Cup, and the Jefferson Cup.
Coach Lori currently assists on the U17G G00 Black (#1 NJ) and U19G G98/99 Black (#1 NJ).

As a player, Coach Lori enjoyed a distinguished college career at the University of Scranton after earning all-state honors at New Providence High School. As a Pioneer, she scored 68 goals in two years on the varsity squad, leading New Providence to its first Union County title in program history. At Scranton, Coach Lori was selected as a two-time Adidas Academic All-American, Middle-Atlantic Conference all-star, and ECAC Scholar athlete award winner, after compiling astounding career totals of 66 goals and 33 assists, effectively breaking schools records in both categories, as well as overall points (99). Her efforts helped lead the Royals to their first ever Middle-Atlantic Conference title in 1986.
Coach Lori graduated from Scranton with a Bachelors degree in Psychology, and received a Rhodes Scholarship nomination in recognition of her athletic and academic prowess, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
Coach Lori holds a USSF National License and is a member of the NSCAA.

Englishby joins FC Copa with over fourteen years of coaching experience at the youth level and has worked with programs of all ages and levels providing great insight into the life cycle of the player.
Coach Englishby brings a wealth of both playing and coaching experience to FC Copa Academy. For the past three years Coach Englishby was the Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach at Division I Drexel University in Philadelphia, PA. While at Drexel he assisted in leading the team to many successful accolades including:

Prior to joining Drexel’s staff, Coach Englishby was the Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach at Division I Campbell University in North Carolina for seven years, his alma mater. As their Assistant Coach, Englishby secured their first ever NCAA Tournament berth in 2007, captured regular season titles in 2008 and 2009, and led the team to their first ever end-of-season National Ranking at #22. With a record of 67-55-13, Coach Englishby was also instrumental in developing many former players onto the next level, with three drafted by the MLS. Additional accolades while at Campbell University included:
Campbell University’s first ever Atlantic Sun Conference Tournament Championship (2007).
Atlantic Sun’s first conference member to go undefeated (9-0) in conference play.
Team has been ranked in the final South Regional ranking three times and has finished in the top 10 in 2007, 2012 and as high as #3 in 2008.

As a player, Coach Englishby was the starting goalkeeper and team captain for Campbell, playing in 44 games in his three years of eligibility after transferring in. He is among the school’s all-time leading saves with 201 stops.
At the club level, Coach Englishby has significant years of experience, most recently with Triangle United in North Carolina where he led his ‘95 Boys team to a USYSA Region III Championship in 2013. In addition to his time with Triangle United SA, Coach Englishby was also the North Carolina Olympic Development Program Head Coach, making him the only collegiate Assistant Coach to be named as Head Coach in the Program. He led his ‘96 Boys to an ODP Region III Championship appearance. Four ODP players went on to the U17 National Team Residency Program while another four went on to the professional ranks.
Coach Englishby holds his USSF B License and NSCAA Premier Diploma, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science and Sports Management from Campbell University.
Director of Administration | Director of Goalkeepers
Steve Lengen joined the FC Copa Academy staff in 2011 and has effectively worked with players at all levels on both the girls' and the boys' side. Steve began his coaching career with McGloughlin Sports, Elite Soccer Academy, and TASA-FC and subsequently started what is today Bridgewater's second club, Bridgewater United. While coaching youth club soccer, he also spent two years as an assistant/goalkeeper coach at Raritan Valley Community College. Steve then moved on to assist the Kean University Men’s soccer team as their goalkeeper trainer for two seasons. Steve is also the founder of a successful training company, Competitive Goalkeeping Academy.
Since joining FC Copa Academy, Steve has coached several girls' teams from U11 to U18 and is the general manager for the New Jersey Copa FC pro-am franchise on both the men and women's sides. He has led teams to many tournament and college showcase championships and placements He has also led teams to US Club Regional Titles in two different regions, US Club and NJYS State Cup finals, and back to back berths at USClub National Championships. Coach Steve currently serves as the Director of Goalkeeping and Senior Staff Coach.
A native of New Jersey, Steve achieved All-Area recognition graduating from Bridgewater-Raritan Regional after a run to the quarterfinals of the Group IV state tournament. He attended Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison as a biology major on an academic scholarship. Steve was also an accomplished referee, starting at age 11, he reffed for 12 years before focusing entirely on coaching. During that time he officiated for multiple leagues and clubs throughout North-Central New Jersey, as well as many State Cup matches. In 2003 he was recognized as “Young Referee of the Year.”
Steve holds National Coaching and National Goalkeeping Diplomas from the NSCAA.
Director | Senior Staff Coach
Marty has been the Varsity Soccer Coach at Seton Hall Prep in West Orange for the past 24 years. His teams were the Prep A Division state champions in 1986, the North Jersey, Non-Public A, champions in 2005, and the Non-Public A State champions in 2007 and 2009. The '07 and '09 teams both won The Star-Ledger Trophy as the No. 1 team in the state and achieved national rankings of No. 6 and No. 8 respectively. Coach Berman was the National Federation of High Schools Regional Coach of the Year in '07 and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America Regional Coach of the Year in '09. He has also been honored as Coach of the Year by the Schools and College Officials Association and the Essex County Coaches Association at various times through the years. Marty is a member of the Seton Hall Prep Hall of Fame and the Columbia High School Soccer Hall of Fame. In addition to his high school coaching, Coach Berman was a highly successful club coach in West Orange, taking his U-12 Boys Lightning squad to the State Cup Final in 2004.
He is an English Teacher as well as soccer coach at Seton Hall Prep. Marty holds a USSF National License.
Academy Medical Director
DR VINCENT CODELLA
Dr. Vincent Codella serves as both the Academy Medical Director of FC Copa Academy as well as the Official Team Doctor for both the UWS and NPSL New Jersey Copa FC teams.
Dr. Codella is board certified in family practice by the American Osteopathic Board of Family Practitioners.
He received his medical training from the University of Medicine & Dentistry of New Jersey, and completed his residency in family practice at Union Hospital, where he also served as a teaching-attending physician. He works closely with Union Hospital today.
Coach Craig brings over 35 years of experience as a player and coach to FC Copa Academy. Craig grew up in the Cleveland, Ohio area playing for many N.E Ohio premiere youth soccer clubs. During high school, Craig attended Lakewood Saint Edward H.S. and was a 3-year letter winner and team captain, as well as being selected All-State. He went on to attend Michigan State University and play for MSU's all-time winningest coach, Joe Baum.
Coach Craig has been on staff over 5 years and has been with the U15B Betis team the past few seasons, who reached #10 (Got Soccer) in NJ and won the NYC Cup. Most recently, he coached the FC Copa U20 men's team. During his time on staff Craig has coached multiple boys and girls teams that have attended the Jefferson Cup, NYC Cup, Potomac Tournament, Delco Tournament, PA Classics, EDP College Showcases and US Club Mid Atlantic Regional's.
He is a current member of the NSCAA and hold numerous youth coaching licenses and diplomas, including a USSF National License. Craig recently completed 2 courses from the NSCAA, Future Coaches and Mental Physical Player Development. Previously, Craig was a staff coach and VP of Operations for Metuchen Travel Soccer Club.
Coach Sherwin brings over 35 years of experience as a player and coach to FC Copa. Sherwin grew up on the Caribbean island of Trinidad, played on various youth soccer teams. During high school, Sherwin attended Saint Peters H.S. and was team captain for four years. He went on to attend PRATT Institute, Brooklyn NY and played for two years before the program was eliminated.
Most recently, Sherwin was a coach and Tournament Director for Jackson Travel Soccer. Sherwin coached the U17B Jackson Tornados and the U12G Jackson Avalanche. Since joining FC Copa Sherwin has brought the U12 FC Copa Madrid/Bilbao to a #9 and #23 rank in the state. Coach Sherwin has also coached the U23 women reserve team in 2016 and after an undefeated season guided them to a championship.
In between his FC Copa assignments Coach Sherwin is a full time Project Manager. Sherwin is a current member of the NSCAA in good standing and holds his youth USSF coaching licenses.
Kevin joins us bringing to the table a ton of experience. He has played at the highest level along with an incredible career in coaching and player development.
Kevin played professionally in Portugal for the Second Division side Uniao De Leiria before continuing his career overseas in the United States. Here he joined Sporting Club of Newark who played in the Cosmopolitan League for Portugal Under 21. Kevin was coached by one of New Jersey’s most successful coaches and former Portuguese First Division soccer player Armando Spencer.
After his time playing had come to an end Kevin pursued the coaching side of soccer and his impressive career continued. Kevin’s 14 years of coaching experience kicked off at Hillsborough Soccer Club. He went on to grow the organization and also started their first Youth Development Program. Through his rise in Hillsborough he went on to coach at NJSA04 for five years. In his tenure, Kevin lead his nationally ranked NJSA Porto side to multiple accolades topped off with a NJ Cup Finals finish.
Kevin Canica holds a USSF C license along with the NSCAA National Youth Diploma. He also has received a Coaching Certificate with Sporting Clube de Portugal in Lisbon.
Coach Mary, a former player and assistant coach at University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), has joined the FC Copa Academy Staff.
Coach Mary graduated magna cum laude from UMBC with a degree in history in 2006. As a player, she was all-state at Watkins Mill High School in Maryland before going to the next level at UMBC, where she appeared in 69 games and started 63 for the Retrievers during her college career. She excelled on the field and off at UMBC, earning America East Conference all-conference second team and all-rookie in 2003 and making the America East championship all-tournament team in 2005. She was a tri-captain of the Retrievers from three seasons from 2004 through 2006 and served as president of the UMBC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee in 2004-05 and 2005-06.
As a coach, Mary served on the staff at her alma mater, which competes in NCAA Division I as a member of the America East Conference, and she has also worked at some of the top club programs in Maryland.
Since 2013, Hearin has worked as a staff assistant coach at Maryland United Football Club with the Elite Clubs National League U13 through U18 girls teams. At the same time, she was assistant girls coach at The McDonogh School in Owings Mills, MD.
Director of Communications & Staff Coach
Coach Andrew is a alum of FC Copa Academy and now joins us as the Director of Communications and a Staff Coach. He attended John F. Kennedy Memorial High School where he played four years at the varsity level. He was named captain of the team his junior and senior year.
FC Copa Academy became the home Coach Andrew for the next ten years since the age of 14. He played for the Pumas and Forza in his time here. In his junior year of high school he went and trained at the Sporting CP Academy in Portugal. Coach Andrew continued to play for the club as a part of the Elite Collegiate Program U23 Men’s Team. Currently he is a part of our New Jersey Copa FC NPSL team.
Coach Andrew graduated from Manhattan College with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications and received his minor in Digital Media Arts. Andrew went on to play four years of Division I college soccer in Riverdale, New York. He proved to be a crucial piece in Manhattan’s success through his four years with his play, leadership and determination. Coach Andrew was a MAAC Tournament Finalist in his freshman year and a MAAC Semi-Finalist, arguably the team's best season, during his junior year. His college career was topped off with a great senior year where he received the team's Most Valuable Player of the Year Award for the 2014 season.
Coach Andrew has been involved in many programs here at FC Copa Academy. He has helped run and lead our Technical Training, Junior Academy, Striker Program and Speed & Power Program. He is a Futsal Academy coach and has been apart of our FC Copa Academy Camp Staff.
Coach Andrew currently holds a NSCAA Level 1 Diploma, a USSF Natioanal "E" License and a NJYS “E” License.
Matty Berman joined FC Copa Academy as a staff coach in 2015 upon completing a successful NCAA Division 1 career at Marist College, after transferring from Rutgers University following his rookie campaign. As a,Scarlet Knight, he earned 5 starts and Big East All-Academic Team Honors. As a Red Fox, Matty served as team captain his junior and senior seasons, compiled 51 starts, and tallied eight career assists. In October of 2013, his efforts led him to be named MAAC Student-Athlete of the week. In addition to this honor, Matty was named Marist Student-Athlete of the Month in September of 2013. Matty earned MAAC All- Academic team accolades in 2013 and 2014. Following his senior campaign, Matty received the 2014 Marist Men’s Soccer Coaches Award after starting all 18 matches for the Red Foxes..
In high school, Matty was an all state, all county, and all conference player his junior and senior seasons at Seton Hall Prep in West Orange, NJ. As a member of FC Copa Forza, from 2007-2011, they won 2 state championships (2011), and finished as national finalists in 2008. He continued his playing career with the club on the U20 and U23 teams in the US Club NPL. His efforts helped the U23’s to undefeated seasons in both 2013 and 2014.
On returning to FC Copa as a staff coach, the F Lisence coach and Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) stated, "It has always been my goal to come back and coach with the club that helped me so much throughout my youth soccer career, and I am grateful that the opportunity has come this soon. Being able to soak in all aspects of managing players and the team, by observing Coach Roberto and the other coaches is such a valuable opportunity."
Director of Programs
Coach Giallombardo, who is a New Jersey native, is a former USMNT player and a longtime youth coach. After getting capped on the U-14, 15, 17, 18 and 20 National Team, Coach Giallombardo played overseas for Southampton FC from 2006-2009 before returning to the United States to play for the USL Pro side Dayton Dutch Lions. Upon the conclusion of his playing career, Coach Giallombardo went on to win State Championships and reach Regional Finals as a coach at NJCSA.
Coach Giallombardo has significant experience in the coaching world in New Jersey. From 2010–2015, he was the Director of Coaching at Soccer Specific Training in Wall, NJ. He led NJCSA Elite U9 to U14 Girls team to a State Championship, a Regional Final, a top 10 ranking in New Jersey and a top 25 ranking nationally. Coach Giallombardo has also served as a staff coach for Indiana University Soccer camps for the last two years. As a player, Coach Giallombardo has played and trained with every USNT from U-14 to U-20 which included international call ups to Japan, Ireland, Argentina, Mexico, Germany and England. Additionally, Coach Giallombardo was a member of the Residency Program at IMG Academy, Bradenton FL, from 2004 to 2006 while he was a pool player in the USMNT U15 to U20 squads.
Giallombardo holds a USSF Coaching License and his FA EAC Coaching Badge.
Coach Raphael joins FC Copa Academy as a full time staff member. Raphael brings over 2 years of coaching experience at the youth level where he worked with boys and girls of all ages and levels. Most recently, Coach Raphael has worked as part of the New York Red Bull’s training programs where he was involved in developing soccer players throughout the tri-state area.
Raphael played four years of varsity soccer at North Plainfield High School where he was member of the group II Central State championship team in 2010. As a high school varsity player he earned all-conference, all-county and all-state awards. As a collegiate athlete he played for New Jersey City University and Rutgers-Newark University. Raphael is the first All-American in Rutgers-Newark history. Throughout his college career he earned two All-NJAC first team awards and NJAC co-Offensive player of the year. In just two seasons he set Rutgers-Newark career marks for goals (46), points per game (2.37), goals per game (1.07). Following his college career, Raphael played for Icon FC, American soccer team from New Jersey that plays in the professional American Soccer League (ASL). He currently plays for NJ Copa FC in the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL).
Coach Raphael currently holds the USSF D license and the NSCAA goalkeeping level 1 diploma.
Paulo grew up playing youth soccer in the tradition rich Ironbound section of Newark where he also continued to play and coach the game he loves all the way up to the semi-pro level until the late 90s. A multi-sport athlete, Paulo was a regional track champion from 1983-1986 and AAU all American from 1983-1986. Due to his great athletic accomplishments, he was inducted into the Newark Hall of Fame in October 2009.
Paulo began his soccer coaching career in 1990 for the local clubs in Newark. He has also coached in the Colonia and Woodbridge youth organizations and joined the FC Copa Academy coaching staff in 2006. He has lead teams in our girls program to numerous championships and has had a number of his players at FC Copa Academy go on to play collegiate soccer.
Paulo is a US State Referee,l and holds his USSF National License.
