Welcome to F.C. Copa′s home on the web! Emily Jurcsek Returns From Serving As Ambassador for Julie Foudy posted 5/21/2013 by FC Copa
Emily Jurcsek, a member of the FC Copa Aventura U17G team, returned from the Disney Wide World of Sports complex serving as ambassador in the Special Olympics for the Julie Foudy Sports Leadership Academy program.
It is not every day that the former 14 year captain of the women’s soccer team that won Olympic Gold and the World Cup for the USA calls your house. But, Emily Jurcsek of the U17G Aventura had that once in a lifetime experience, when Julie Foudy called her at home to tell her she won the Julie Foudy Sports Leadership Academy’s “Choose to Matter” Community Service Contest. And it only takes Emily one word to describe the experience: Thrilling.
Emily attended the JFSLA’s soccer program last summer in Hightstown, NJ. The week was filled with life lessons, team building activities, mentoring opportunities, and, of course, plenty of soccer!
During the week at JFSLA, Julie challenged the hundreds of girls that attended to go home and make a difference in their community – in essence, to Choose to Matter. Emily took the challenge seriously, and immediately drew up plans to raise awareness and money for a charity that is close to her heart – Stomp the Monster. STM, a charity that FC Copa teams have helped in the past, focuses its charitable work to assist families fighting cancer to help make ends meet during the most difficult times of their cancer treatments.
Emily enlisted the help of family, friends, and players from FC Copa and her high school soccer team for her project. She secured a booth at the Metuchen Fair, with the aim to spread the word about her charity. Emily secured a donation of M&Ms in STM colors, and sold small bags of them during the day. She also distributed hundreds of flyers about STM to help spread the word about the charity’s focus.
Julie was impressed with the project when she called Emily. “Emily achieved her goal of raising money and awareness, and, equally important, she will inspire more young boys and girls to do the same”.
A s the New Jersey camp winner, Emily traveled to Disney this past week to join Julie and the winners from the other regions at Disney’s ESPN Sports Complex. There, they served as student ambassadors to the Special Olympic athletes.
Roberto Aguas, founder of FC Copa commented, "We are incredibly proud of Emily in her efforts to help others. Emily is not only a long time member of our program but we have had the opportunity to help her develop into an impressive young lady with great soccer talent. Emily continues to find ways to share her time and heart with those less fortunate. This is just another great example of her true dedication."
Please join the leadership of FC Copa as we congratulate Emily on a job well done, and for making the decision to Choose to Matter!
FC Copa Places 2 Teams in NJYS National Championship Series! posted 5/20/2013 by FC Copa FC Copa Juniors U16B Semi-Finals and FC Copa Real U18G Places Finalists in the 2013 NJYS National Championship Series!
The FC Copa Juniors had a fantastic run through out the NJYS National Championship Series this spring. The Juniors won their first 3 games outscoring their combined opponents 10-0. They moved on to the semi finals in Manalapan to take on a PDA Keane team whom they were very familiar with. After tying PDA the weekend before in an EDP game, the Juniors lost a tough match by way of a 2-0 final. Reaching the semi finals of the NJYS National Championship Series is a great accomplishment after having won the US Club NJ Cup State Championship the weekend before.
The FC Copa Real also made a tremendous run through the NJYS National Championship Series as they competedin the finals this past weekend after also reaching the finals in the US Club NJ Cup State Championship. In route to the finals, the Real defeated the #7 and #2 ranked team in the state of New Jersey. In the finals they met head to head with teh now #1 ranked team in the state, PDA Crush. Unfortunately the match didn’t go the Real’s way, but their performance through out the tournament will not go overlooked. FC Copa is extremely proud of the careers the Real girls have had here, and wish them luck in the upcoming U20 season, as well as in their preparation for college in the fall.
Coach Roberto Aguas, Director of Player Development, who coaches both the Junior U16B and Real U18G commented, "After having such a great run this year in the NJYS State Cup with both of these teams, it is clear that our program focused on the development of these players and teams is paying off. Players on both teams have multi year tenure with the club and we are proud of these long term loyalty and devotion to our technical and possession based style."
FC Copa Sends Four Teams to NJ Cup Final Four! posted 5/13/2013 by FC Copa FC Copa was well represented at this past weekends semi finals, and finals of the US Club New Jersey Cup. The U16B Juniors, U18G Real, U13G Milan, and U12G Roma all went down to Mercer County Park in form, and in search of for the cup.
The action began Saturday with the U16B Juniors opening up against an Upper Freehold NJ Strikers side that have rivaled each other for several years. At the time, Upper Freehold was the #2 ranked team in New Jersey, with the Juniors coming in ranked #4. The Juniors, confident, jumped out to an early two goal lead, controlling possession, and dictating the tempo of the game. Two second half corner kicks, including one with less than a minute on the clock, got the Strikers back into the game, tied at 2 and heading in to over time. With very little action in the two overtime periods, the game went into penalties. The first Freehold shooter missed, and that was the only window FC Copa needed, as they knocked in their next 5 shots, securing a bid to the finals.
In the finals FC Copa met PDA who came into the match ranked #5 in the state, one spot below the Juniors. Evenly matched through out, FC Copa was able to grab the final goal, winning the contest, and championship by way of a 3-2 margin. It was a great moment for the Juniors as they jubilantly celebrated their state title. The win moved the Juniors up to the #1 ranked team in the State of New Jersey, #4 ranked in Region 1, and #9 ranked Nationally. It is an extremely proud moment for FC Copa, and we couldn’t be happier for the Juniors. Great job boys!
The U18G Real went down to Mercer County Park already having a US Club National Title under their belt. The Real, decimated by injuries took on local rival Jersey United Spartans in their semi final match. Like the Juniors, the Real dictated the tempo and possession of the game, but found themselves even at 2 goals a piece after regulation and overtime. Penalties seemed to favor FC Copa on that Saturday in West Windsor, as the Real calmly advanced to the finals. In the finals they met a strong NJ Wildcats Lady Strikers team who is Ranked #1 in the state, and #4 in the country. Unfortunately, the Real ran out of gas, and dropped the final 1-0 to a deserving NJ Wildcats team. It was a great run for the Real, who still have an opportunity to defend their US Club National Title this summer.
Moving into Sunday morning, it was the Milan, and Roma’s turn to make their run at a tile.
After beating PDA Atletica in the quarter finals, the #5 ranked FC Copa Milan took on #9 ranked PDA Pride in the semi final of the U13G New Jersey Cup. It was a poor first half performance for the Milan who conceded four goals and went into halftime searching for the answer to their troubles. Well, they found that answer, and responded with a whopping five second half goals, defeating PDA Pride 5-4! It was an unbelievable second half for the Milan. Rarely at such a high level of competition can a team overcome a deficit that large, and they did with great poise and urgency. In the finals FC Copa met another PDA side for the third straight game. This time it was the #11 ranked Gunners. Copa and PDA went into half time tied 2-2 evenly matched, and equally hungry for a title. The second half was disappointing for the Milan, as they had their opportunities, but just couldn’t edge the Gunners. The final ended 4-2 in favor of PDA, keeping true to the old adage “the third times a charm”. FC Copa couldn’t be happier with the body of work the Milan put in in the NJ Cup, and know they will come back stronger and hungrier. Great work ladies, and keep your heads high.
The #21 ranked FC Copa Roma strung together a nice series of victories leading into the U12G New Jersey Cup semi finals. The Roma previously had defeated NJ Force, 3-2, and Upper Freehold, 1-0. In the semi finals the Roma matched up against #12 ranked Middletown SC. The Fusion from Middletown was a strong side, and defeated the Roma, en route to eventually winning the New Jersey Cup. The Roma battled, but just couldn’t find their rhythm against the athletic Middletown girls. The Roma have a bright future ahead of them, and are on the right path to becoming one of the top teams in their age group. Great job girls!

FC Copa teams continue to have a successful Spring kickoff! posted 4/8/2013 by FC Copa FC Copa Milan U13G and FC Copa Celeste U14G have great showing at 2013 PDA Spring Kickoff!
The U13 Girls FC Copa Milan (#7 NJ) continued their very successful spring by making it to the Finals of the highly competitive PDA Girls Spring Kickoff April 6th and 7th. As Saturday’s games concluded the Milan found themselves a-top the table winning their first two matches. The Milan won game one over a strong Huntingdon Valley Freedom side from Pennsylvania 2-0, then knocked off Thistle FC by way of a 3-1 final score. Entering Sunday, the Milan had needed only one goal, win or lose, to wrap up a bid to the finals, in a close one vs ISA Elite, the match ended 2-1. Unfortunately the great run ended there for the Milan who lost in PKs in a hard fought final, to the #2 ranked team in Pennsylvania West, Allegheny Force FC.
The U14 Girls FC Copa Celeste (#7 NJ) like the Milan also continued their stellar spring campaign by reaching the Semi-Finals of the PDA Girls Spring Kick Off. They began pool play by defeating the #8 ranked team in New Jersey Holmdel FC 1-0, then doubled their win total by way of a 3-0 win over World Class FC from New York. The Celeste controlled both games out possessing and out working their opponents. On Sunday, the Celeste had a tall task ahead of them, going up against Massachusetts #2 ranked team Aztec Soccer Kodiat. The teams were evenly matched throughout, which the scoreboard confirmed, as the game finished tied, 1-1. Aztec advanced on to the final instead of the Celeste due to a tiebreaker differential, and they went on to win the championship. The Celeste ladies finished with a +4 goal differential and no losses the entire weekend.
Overall it was a tremendous weekend of soccer for the Milan, Celeste, and FC Copa at the PDA Spring Kickoff. Great job ladies, keep up the good work!
